    Experience

During my time in RMTL, I was mentored by Ami Abbott on determining characteristics of muscle tissue by enzyme inhibition. This project allowed me to increase my knowledge in cellular, molecular biology, and master skills such as solution and buffer preparation, dilution, protein purification, enzyme kinetics and data analysis.

    Career Interest

I have always been interested in a career in the medical field, so I majored in Human Biology so I can become a certified Physician Assistant. Through the RMTL fellowship, I learned about the health issues that plague underserved communities, thus I was motivated to participate in the Health Frontiers in Tijuana Internship to continue preparing for my career.

    Highlight of Fellowship

The highlight of my experience was creating long-lasting relationships with both my mentors and peers who have inspired and supported me in my scientific career. If it wasn't for the RMTL Fellowship, I would have never challenged myself to seek out more opportunities.

    Experience

RMTL gave me experience in better understanding basic biological lab techniques by practicing them. The research I did in the lab was in purification and analysis of glycolytic enzymes from mammalian tissue. I not only learned how to do research in a lab but learned about how these techniques help researchers to learn more about the different biological molecules that are present in the body.

    Career Interest

My career goal is to be a physician assistant. I want to use my knowledge of science and health to provide medical services and promote good health in medically underserved communities

    Highlight of Fellowship

One highlight for me was the different workshops that I attended. They not only were informative but also hands on as I had the opportunity to learn how to use a device that can measure a person's blood glucose levels

    Experience

RMTL benefited me in so many ways. I was able to learn foundational lab techniques, studied enzymes, develop my communication skills with professional staff, and also gain a better understanding of the how and why of research. I am able to apply all that I learned in my classes.

    Career Interest

I am an aspiring physician! My passion for science and helping others has led me to want to continue my education into medical school.

    Highlight of Fellowship

Overall, I really appreciated the fun and welcoming environment. I didn't have to worry about being perfect and was not intimidated by anything. The lab supervisor, Ami and Dr.Fricovsky are amazing individuals who really helped me learn about research
